Scaffold architecture is known to influence biocompatibility and osteoconductivity (ability to support bone growth) of bone substitutes. For example, parameters such as pore size, porosity rate, level of pore interconnectivity, or microporosity significantly affect bone cell proliferation and differentiation in vitro and bone ingrowth in vivo.
